HORWICH FESTIVAL of RACING – Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th June 2016

Organised by the Horwich Festival of Racing Committee

Dear Resident,

The annual Horwich Festival of Racing event is almost upon us once again. This year we are delighted to announce that the festival will run for two full days with a fantastic line up of both competitive and fun activities for the whole family.

This year’s Festival is not just for the seasoned cyclist; the addition of a Saturday programme has meant that everyone can get involved with two mass participation events in the afternoon – cycling and running - as well as watch an elite cycling race featuring some of the UK’s top cyclists in a one hour night race starting at 7pm that night. We want you all to come down on your bikes and take part in the events on Saturday. For one day...bikes and feet rule the roads!

There’s plenty of activities for all the family to enjoy this year too at the new venue of Old Station Park – so drop by to enjoy live music, sporting activities, stalls and giveaways from British Cycling.

The traditional Sunday event will, as in previous years, see a full programme of events in Cycling, Running, Triathlon, Unicycling and Orienteering.

As the volunteer organisers of the Festival the support that local residents and businesses give to this event is invaluable and we would welcome the same support and cooperation across the weekend this year too. In planning this year’s event we have been working closely with a number of organisations in order to stage the event safely and successfully, as a result the following roads will be closed to facilitate the planned activities and will make up the event circuit.

10am to 9pm on Saturday 18th June and 6am to 6pm on Sunday 19th June

• Chorley New Road from the Crown Roundabout to Winter Hey Lane;

• Winter Hey Lane for its entire length to Lee Lane;

• Lee Lane to the Crown Roundabout.

As well as the above roads being closed, please note there will be no access onto the above roads from any adjoining roads. This is with the exception of the usual vehicle crossing point at Curteis Street and Rock Street to ensure residents and businesses can get in and out of this area each day. Everywhere is accessible for pedestrians.

We would ask that all vehicles are removed from the above named roads during the road closure times. More information can be found online at www.horwichfestivalofracing.co.uk

Information on bus diversions can be obtained via - www.tfgm.com

Your feedback on what promises to be an exciting weekend of sport in Bolton is welcome, along with any questions you may have about the content of this letter or the Festival weekend itself. Please do not hesitate to contact us via the website, through our Facebook page; www.facebook.com/horwichfestivalofracing.co.uk or at the addresses above.

Thank you once again for your continued support,

The Horwich Festival of Racing committee.

Along with our detailed planning we are also aiming to maximise profile of the event across the wider Bolton area, as such we are expecting increased visitors to the town this year and would anticipate that this will have a positive impact to local businesses.
